      @JKnott:

A client to do what?  If you're talking about a VPN client, you install a client for the device operating system and then generate the keys etc.

A client to monitor and manage a pfSense router.  Similar to Asus and Linksys.

Any web browser can do that.  You just have to enable it.  However, do you really want to open control of your firewall to the outside world?  If you want remote access, you're better off connecting via a VPN.

PfSense running on Qotom mini PC
i5 CPU, 4 GB memory, 32 GB SSD & 4 Intel Gb Ethernet ports.
        UniFi AC-Lite access point

        I haven't lost my mind. It's around here...somewhere...

          Tiny:
RaspBerry PI with Linux, CACTI and MRTG

          Small:
Tclmon and Netstate to get a qualified network monitoring

          Big:
PfSense Monitoring mit ELK (ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana)
You may do also the following:

          • create a small server
          • install ElasticSearch, Logstash & Kibana
          • configure it like here explained under the both links
            Link 1
            Link 2

Now log in over a VPN connection that is save and connect to that Monitoring Server.
Here are some examples what you can expect from that installation as a result:

What you are searching for? VPN client, SSH client, and pfSense firewall on a notebook
as mobile firewall or router instance?

I am kinda saying that it'd be cool to have say iOS app that would allow to connect to pfSense box and allow monitoring and management, restart etc.

As I mentioned earlier, you only need a browser, just as though you're on the LAN.  However, instead of allowing remote access, you'd be better off with a VPN to access it remotely.

It comes to the entire hardware you are using here, some boards are sorted with an IPMI Port that can be used
for that action, after connecting to the pfSense box over VPN for sure. And in some situations you may be able
to get a round walking on other ways.

                    Monitoring solutions

                    • Directly to the pfSense may need also extra resources on that box. A small RaspBerry PI with Linux, CACTI
and MRTG would be nice too in my eyes. CACTI & MRTG

                    • PRTG offers "Free" version  of their software with 100 Sensors free of charge, so if you own a small server
and it would be able to insert one more VM it could be also a great success for you, they are offering several
APPs for iOS, Android and Windows based smartphones and tablets. PRTG Apps

So your could be easily connect via VPN and then starting the PRTG App for monitoring it in an easier way.
If you are owning devices from Kinetix or APC UPS that would be also matching and playing well together
                    with PRTG´s monitoring software.

                    • You may be also able to set up TclMon and Netstate for you network on a VM or bare metal as you want
it is not so shiny looking like other but very stable and let you draw an network map that is more then the
                      most peoples will need. TclMon

                    • Logtstash, elastic and kinbana as shown above would be also nice to get access to them from the outside,
but it would be also a harder way to install and configure it right.

                    VPN clients:
                    ShrewSoftVPN client:

                    • iOS devices from Apple are working out of the Box with IPSec VPN such pfSense is doing it too!
But if you are needing or willing to install a good working client you could have a look on the
ShreSoftVPN client. ShreSoftVPN client & pfSense Wiki: IPsec Road Warrior/Mobile Client How-To

                    OpenVPN

                    • OpenVPN is also offering several VPN clients for iOS or Android or Windows devices, so
if you want to set it up this way you should have a look over that one here. OpenVPN iOS client
