Supermicro SYS-5018A-FTN4 - Slow Upload Speeds
-
Looking for some help here:
First, I've been running PFSense on my FiOS connection using a Supermicro 5015A-EHF-D525 4GB Ram/32GB SSD for years and have had little to no problems… until I recently upgraded my bandwidth (from 75x35 to 150x150)
I don't have a very complex setup as of this moment, 40 IPSec Tunnels, 2 interfaces, 1 Vlan however I cannot seem to get the upstream throughput. Thinking that perhaps I had somehow exceeded the capabilities of the D525 (foolishly after a bit more forum searching & google research) and considering that I'm about to significantly turn up the complexity for some upcoming projects I opted to pickup a Supermicro SYS-5018A-FTN4 w/ 8GB Ram & a 64GB SSD. I also learned that this is the exact board that is sold in the PFSense store in the C2758 (wish I would have purchased that instead to support the project!)
Much to my surprise, I am still stuck at the same upstream speed. After several hours on the phone with Verizon (due diligence, thought provisioning was the problem and it's damn near impossible to break a DHCP lease without their intervention) I was able to determine that I can in fact get the speed when I am both directly connected to the ONT with my laptop AND when I allow the connectivity to flow through my primary switch using my laptop as the sole device connected to it. (I recognize that this isn't a clear test because other network traffic could cause load on the switch, but I wanted to ensure fundamentally the switch could handle the throughput bidirectionally)
The odd thing for me is that when setup as 'normal' (below) I can routinely test at 176.1 Mbps Down , but I cannot exceed 44 Mbps Up no matter what I do.
Network Topology is as follows:
FiOS: Cat6E from ONT ---> PFSense WAN interface -->
PFSense LAN Interface ---> Netgear GS752TP Gig Switch --> My Desktop, Other Devices, 2 Other Switches
Thus far I have:
1. Set 1000M Full Duplex for the WAN interface
2. disabled ALL Tunnels
3. Removed the Vlan
4. Physically Disconnected any Downstream switches
5. Grown some grey hair
6. Realized I need to post and see if anyone has the answer or some ideas :)Ideas? Thoughts? Things to Try? Tuning? Buehler?!
Thank you in advance!
