Uploading Files
-
Forgive me if this is a stupid question. I'm not well versed pfSense or FreeBSD, but I'm trying to learn.
I'm trying to upload a file to pfSense from a Windows machine. Being a newbie, I thought I'd take the simple route and use the GUI under Diagnostics|Command Prompt|Upload. Using the Browse button, I locate the file and press Upload. It seems to work because I see my disk utilization go up, but I can't find the file.

I've tried doing a find filename from Diagnostics|Command Prompt|Command Prompt, but it returns No such file or directory.

Thinking I may be in the wrong directory, I tried pwd from Diagnostics|Command Prompt|Command Prompt and it tells me I'm in /usr/local/www. I tried doing cd / then pwd, but I'm still in /usr/local/www. I tried whoami and it says I'm root.
Can someone help me understand where I should expect these files to be uploaded to and/or help me understand why I can't seem to navigate the file system?
Thanks.

Shows you where when you upload. See attached.
It's much easier to just use your favorite sftp client, filezilla will do sftp, winscp, etc.

I'm having a problem with this feature. I need to upload an "if_re.ko" file to update the driver for my Realtek cards (different story), but the upload doesn't appear to go into the tmp file.
I tested out an upload with a .txt file titled "test.txt" and that worked great (verified with the file browser).
Any thoughts on why the "if_re.ko" file won't upload? I was planning on moving it from there to the /boot/kernel file.
Thanks!

Maybe not the right way….but try changing your file to a txt file then upload it....then change the filename back to the original?

Thanks for the response – good call, I will give that a try. I wonder if it will screw up the file when I do it? Oh well -- we'll see. Appreciate it.

Maybe try a different browser? You could also use something like winscp to get it over there.

Thanks yeah I'll give that a try. I just can't believe I'm struggling with such a basic problem…moving a file from Windows to FreeBSD. Would be a lot easier if I could figure out how to mount my USB stick (or if I could get the file uploaded with the file uploading feature).
I'll investigate WinSCP. Thanks!
