PfSense Freezing
-
Hi,
I had to restore my install 2.4.2 from a previous backup. After the restore, I have intermittent freeze-ups both on the web page as well as the console. Note, previously never had any of this behavior in the past 3 years.I'm looking for some guidance on where to start looking for the problem, i.e., Logs etc.
Thanks for the help.

Id be curious as to what caused the need for the restore in the first place.. Hardware does stop working correctly at some point in its life.. But-
Start with a clean slate.. Build the interfaces the way you need them from scratch. Restore one item at a time from your old config.
I like to restore this way no matter what myself when replacing gear.

The problem occurred right after the upgrade to 2.4.2 from the previous release (I always keep the install updated).
Anyway, I've been running for the past year without interruption on a Hyper-V host. The gear is relatively new and don't believe that to be the problem. The only other new-ish addition to the box (installed and running perfectly before the upgrade) was DNSBL in the pfBlocker module. Other than that, I've been running Snort and pfBlocker without incident. After the upgrade, it all seemed normal and no errors ensued. However, all external connectivity was unavailable. After a number of attempts to review/modify some of the settings all seemed in order but still could not get external connectivity even though i could see that it was acquiring the external ip from the isp.
Failing all that I tried restoring from a recent backup using a new install. Each time I tried the full restore it failed leaving me without a dashboard. Each time I tried to reach the dashboard it re-directed me to a Package Manager screen requiring me to click on a button that "permission required to reinstall packages". Howeve, the packages were all restored and could get to them individually but no dashboard.
So, I then tried to restore individually, as you mentioned, as I've been around these type of issues on other installs. And, finally I was able (doing this) to reach what seemed to be a stable environment. However, as I mentioned, I am now getting these sporatic freezes. But, I must also point out that connectivity is not lost even though the system appears to be frozen, i.e., even though I can't get to the system all traffic seems to be moving correctly from wha ti can detect.
So, I seem to be an an impass. I really don't want to start from scratch and not using any of the backup data. That was the reason for my question.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Can you try this patch?

Thanks. I just applied it.
And, since it mentioned that it cannot be cleanly retracted I took a snapshot so that I can revert.I'll update the thread on the re-occurrence.
Thanks for your help.
