Running pfsense on VMware now on a host with dual gigabit ports. the wan port is also giving internet to my host pc while the lan goes into a switch. Is there a performance issue here? Would I be better buying a pc for pfsense? If so I saw this

one reviewer said it was laggy on pfsense.

      Thanks

I'm running pfsense on that machine and it works fine for my home network with a couple dozen devices.  I'm running snort, but not much else for packages, and the cpu usage almost never shows more than %3 in pfsense.  It's tough to beat for the price.

Do you actually need 1Gbps throughput? You won't get that with pfSense and a D2550 CPU. 'Laggy' performance can be very subjective and impossible to compare when he doesn't say what throughput he was trying to push.
