Box with built in VDSL Modem?
-
Anyone know if such a thing exists? Or is there a commercial router/product out there that can be flashed with pfSense and use the onboard VDSL modem? Ideally one that is distributed in the UK as well!
Thanks -
Just use a modem in bridge mode.
There is nothing worse than having to change out your entire firewall because your WAN technology changes.
Ethernet handoff to your firewall is where it's at.

Well there is this one…

That Draytek card is the only thing I've seen that will do VDSL, which I assume you have.
Like most of those it's just a router and NIC on one PCB, it appears as a Realtek NIC to pfSense.
Like Derelict said though I would go with a separate modem. In fact I do have separate modems for DSL connections here in the UK.
About the only reason to use a card like that would be to have it all in one box but there are advantages to being able to position the modem in a different place to the firewall anyway.

Exactly… Ethernet.

It was an interesting product but I guess the demand was not there for it. No great loss IMO, though my use case is probably not typical. ;)
