APU2C4 PuTTY not showing
-
Hey guys,
this i probably a minor error, but I don't seem to be able to get my setup working.
I plugged a USB to serial adapter into my PC and set it to COM4, set the speed to 115200 8n1 and XON XOFF - all what I read about the PC Engines settings. After that I opened PuTTY and also configured the same settings. I plugged the cable and an Adapter from female to female into the APU2C4, started the PuTTY console and after that the power cord of the APU, but nothing is showing up on the screen. The APU does a beep after a few seconds and is completely built after the tutorial of PC Engines, so I don't think it's broken.
Any suggestions how to solve the problem? Should I go for a 0-Modem Cable instead of the female to female adapter? That wouldn't make any sense to me..
Thanks anyways :)

Yes, you need a null modem to connect from a PC (DTE) to the APU (Also a DTE)
I have found one of these with the nuts removed (they just unscrew) to be invaluable for APUs and other DB9 DTE consoles such as might be found on any commodity PC.
It even does the sex change for you since it's F/F. You can just connect your USB-to-serial adapter right to it.

I have exactly on of these
You still need a null modem cable/adapter, look up the difference.

For work like this I like these cables (look for original FTDI chipset!) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N0LMWGQ
together with two of those adapters https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002J1JUE
one configured straight, one as Null Modem crossed.
Add a male/male gender changer to your toolbox and you should be able to connect to about any serial on db9 that comes along … as well as any Cisco style console port.
