Hello all!
I have still my problem, that the Firewall is not able to find updates. The last recommendation was, to reinstall the Box.
Maybe I will find time in the next days to do that. As I m not looking forward to have surprises here, I want to ask about the best approach. Right now, my box is showing the following:
System Netgate APU
Serial:
Netgate Device ID:
BIOS Vendor: coreboot
Version: SageBios_PCEngines_APU-45
Release Date: 04/05/2014
Version 2.3.4-RELEASE-p1 (amd64)
built on Fri Jul 14 14:52:43 CDT 2017
FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-p19
Platform pfSense
CPU Type AMD G-T40E Processor
2 CPUs: 1 package(s) x 2 core(s)So what is the best approach to do it? Create a Backup, connect with ssh on the Box? Put the new firmware on a USB Stick? What is the right procedure on that? And which firmware is the right one?
Thanks for answers
One more ask: On the Box is a CA installed, she is used for VPN. Is the CA really also reinstalled with the Backup?

Interestingly enough I have this exact same issue, I am stuck on 2.3.4-RELEASE-p1 (i386)
I guess I could backup and reinstall, but I would like to know if there is another way around this.
I thought it odd, because the software usually has updates very often, but I have not seen one since it was built back in July… Very odd.

Set the update branch to "Legacy stable version", this should get you 2.3.5.
You won't get 2.4: https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=121255.0

Thanks, I just did that as you posted…...
Question is, I found my version is a i386, can I upgrade or should I say replace the version and pull my backup in?
-
Found the answer, Can't upgrade from i386 to 64bit, fresh install and pull in the backup…
Will do this soon, I had this backup from a very old system and upgraded along the way, time to make the move to 64bit if I want future upgrades.

cool but my question is still open

pkg upgrade - f brings:
pkg: Invalid configuration file: error while parsing <unknown>: line: 1, column: 4 - 'string value must not be empty', character: '0x00'
pkg: Error parsing: '/usr/local/etc/pkg/repos//pfSense.conf': error while parsing <unknown>: line: 1, column: 0 - 'key must begin with a letter', character: '0x00'</unknown></unknown> -
Hello!
Any posters that would help me here?
How should I do the update? All guides to resolve the update problem are not working on my box.The ssh console brings me back to the main options, when I select update

The most straight forward approach would be to backup your current config, install fresh from USB stick and reapply your config afterwards.
Don't forget to backup your config first. ;)
