      Hello community.

      The input here has been a great help in the past, so I'd appreciate it if you could help me out again.

      For some more detailed info, the old Topic is linked here: https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=145181.0

      A little summary:

      I have two identical computers running pfSense 2.4.2-p1. I have a surf stick on each as a backup connection.
      The previous thread was about device 1; this one is about device 2.

      As suggested in the old thread, I've tried using different USB ports, but to no avail. I've tried every interface that showed up.

      Using the front USB gave me cuaU0.0, 0.1 and 0.2 each with the same error.
      Using one of the USB ports in the back gets me cuaU1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 but as you can see.. the error has not changed.

      When trying out```
      cu -s 115200 -l cuaU1.0

      [2.4.2-RELEASE][root@pfSense2]/root: cu -s 115200 -l cuaU1.0
      Connected

      +CSQ: 0,99

      cuaU1.1 gives me no response, but I can exit with ~.

      [2.4.2-RELEASE][root@pfSense2.oellinger.loc]/root: cu -s 115200 -l cuaU1.2
      Connected

      +CSQ: 0,99

      OK

      I'm already using the custom Init string```
      AT&F&C1&D2E0S0=0
      ```(entered without the AT of course).
      Any ideas on how to proceed?
      Thanks in advance.
      **Edit01:**
      The important line is essentially this:
      Apr 24 09:23:46 ppp [opt2_link0] MODEM: chat script failed
      Apr 24 09:23:46 ppp [opt2_link0] CHAT: The modem is not responding to "AT" at ModemCmd: label.
      But as mentioned above, it does respond to me manually typing it in.
        Are you still able to connect to the port after attempting a ppp connection? Your init string could be causing problems. You might try just 'z' in there as a test.
          via console, "ATz" just gives me an "OK" on both ports.
            So it does still respond on both ports after attempting a ppp connection  and without rebooting?
            The script reports it is not responding to 'AT' so if you still see it still responding at the console something is different. Wrong port maybe.
              This is where I am confused as well.
              Before the ppp it worked on both ports… I tried 2 out of 3 because the second one did not respond to AT at all. Or with 8-10 minutes of delay.
              After trying a ppp connection on both ports, I tried the exact same thing again.
              And yes it still responded.
              Though keep in mind: when I say "exact same thing", I mean "exact same thing".
              I had the connection disabled, because it keeps throwing errors.
              So I connected, then disabled it again and tested with the disabled ppp again.
              I'm guessing you're saying "Try connecting WHILE the ppp connection is active"?
                Nope, I'm saying the ppp connection is not talking to the modem correctly since it is trying AT and not seeing a response, or not seeing the correct response at least. So maybe the wrong port or the wrong speed.
                If it was screwing with the port settings somehow I would not expect it to respond at the console again until after a reboot.
                  So you're saying.. since the console responds to AT on both ports.. reduce the baud rate/speed and see if it starts working?
                  I'm sorry I wish I could say I knew what I was doing, but I cannot.
                    Well it could be a number of things. Probably something I'm not even aware of.  ;)
                    In all honesty it will probably be quicker and easier to get a modem that is known to work already or just use an external 3g/4g device that connects via Ethernet.
