True, that does feel like a long time but once you get three upvotes on anything it clears that requirement from you. It helps limit accounts that sign up and spam.

Well it may takes weeks to get 3 upvotes without your intervention πŸŽ… . Maybe this "feature" could take into account the numbers of posts of the user πŸ˜‹

When they said "extensive", they weren't kidding. However, I don't think much of the new format.

How do you mark a forum as read?
Why am I seeing messages years old, when I have sort by newest selected?
How do you go to the latest message in a thread?

Based on what I've seen so far, I'm really not favourably impressed. This seems to be the dumbed down sort of interface that appears to be the fashion these days.

Click on the envelope, mark all as read on the right.

Temporarily or permanently? You can permanently ignore a board by opening it and then changing it from Watching to Ignoring, then it won't show up in your unread list at all.

Why am I seeing messages years old, when I have sort by newest selected?

On which category? By default it should list the newest topics first, unless maybe one of them got set the other way accidentally. Make sure "Sort By" is set to "Newest to Oldest"

How do you go to the latest message in a thread?

Click on the double down arrow in the post count:

Of the available choices that met all the requirements we had, this was the best of the bunch. We can tweak the look and feel over time, so I wouldn't expect it to look this way for very long.

Why am I getting replies via email, instead of here?

To jimp: In the old board, when I go to a forum, such as IPv6, I read the messages that interest me and then click on the Mark read button, all the messages are marked as read. Is that not possible here? When looking at the list of forums, I could instantly see which ones had new messages. Why not now?

As I said, I'm not favourably impressed.

I get both, but if you keep the thread visible in your browser it may not notify you since it injects the replies in real-time and thinks you've seen them.

I see what you mean. I don't see a way to specifically do that, nor a plugin for it, but I'll keep looking around.

I don't have an iOS device to test, but a lot of the behavior of the system can be customized in your profile settings. There may also be a button on the screen to collapse it down. Or perhaps a way to nudge the browser to display the "desktop version" of the site.

I really like modern platforms like Discourse, running two instances by my own. Why do you use a stupid clone and not the free, working and comfortable original?

We were not fond of running another system tied to Ruby, having had difficulties with it and things like Redmine in the past with updates and maintenance. There were several other reasons as well, but in the end NodeBB was the winner. They may look similar but they are vastly different underneath and not exactly what you could call a "clone".

You can turn off email notifications in Settings.

I'm starting to get the hang of the new layout. The only glitch I'm seeing so far is that the small Reply icon that appears when you reply to someone is pure white and useless when matched with a dark theme like Cyborg. If you mouse over it, then you can see it was a reply to <- @user.

The counts are a bit odd, it shows more on the online user list, but you may be seeing 3 people that went through the trouble to set their status as online (click your avatar, then pick online)

                                        Have fun deleting spam.
I was maintaining a manual blocklist of nonsense domains which some of the spammers kept using.
(manually analysing all blocks of the past 3~4 days and extending the list)

Would have preferred if i got "any" kind of notification, or maybe a thanks before getting kicked out, but then again who am i kidding... the project was taking a different path over the last few years and i don't think i have any more place it it.
