I'm off reading the 99+ Chinese posts I some what missed in the past@jimp said in It's good to be back.:
If you don't want those to show up in your unread feed you can ignore the international category. And if you want only a single international category to show up then first disable all int'l, go into the specific category you want to see like Dutch or French and re-enable this subcategory again.

@GruensFroeschli Think about it : taking an existing forum and port it to a new 'engine'. A massif job.I could/can understand they limited some what the admins because most tasks ask for new procedures. I'm pretty sure there is nothing personal here.
And also : maybe they got the spam filtering right this time (I still like to believe such a thing exists - never saw it, though).

@jahonix : Figured it out just an instant ago. Thanks.

@gruensfroeschli I'm truly sorry we made you feel this way but we in no way removed you from mods! We even discussed how we must make sure your mod rights remain, so this must have been done in error during migration, which was automatic / script. Please do not feel unwelcome, far from it. Your help was never unappreciated! Let me see how to get your mod rights back, truly sorry for this fuckup!

Just wait until your third vote. I'll help you out with that in the meantime... ;-)

@gertjan is 100% correct, you have no idea how much work was done. And there's still a lot of work to be done. The migration process was automatic and a lot of stuff didn't migrate well. As an example we've had a few valid accounts show as banned, even though they weren't banned on SMF!
TO EVERYONE, work is still in progress, anything that's wrong with your account WILL BE CORRECTED.

how to see what forum subsections have new posts from a glance ?

We don't doubt that. Main criticism probably is the lack of communication from administration beforehand. To mods and such but to regular users as well. I would have loved to save some content from PMs which is now gone.
But hey, it's netgate's forum and we are all just volunteers, so what.

Just filter what you see from "Unread":

@jahonix I am in agreement with you. Unfortunately, there were many moving parts when it comes to GDPR (and not only with forum). We will make it up to you guys, rest assured.
Again, if something is wrong, it's likely a mistake or an oversight, and it will be fixed! Please report any issues you may have.

I'd like to have read access to my old PMs again!
-
@jahonix we didn't convert them because there was no way to migrate it and because they were private. Now you get to tell me again about lack of communication, to what I agree.
-
No need to repeat myself, I did that already.

I'd like to know that too.
-
Is it possible to change to a theme that more closely resembles the previous forum?
-
I like the new forum personally, that is, after I changed to a darker theme.
-
@chpalmer Same here. First I've not been able to authenticate with my account. Had to reset password then authenticate with my email. Look & feel is perhaps closer to what one can see on social networks but, at least to me, reading content is less easier. Very close to Nethserver forum in term of look and feel BTW but I definitely don't like it.

There is a solution and doesn't need much works : forum.pfsense.org still exists and is probably simply redirected to the new forum.netgate.com. I guess the old SMF is still operational.
Restore the old forum in read only mode (no more posts or edits allowed) and keep it up like that for a week or two.
This can be prepared upfront - no hurry. Just prepare a blog post, choose the date and go.
Something like that.
Example : when OVH ditched the old forum to the new https://community.ovh.com/, they kept the old forum here https://forum.ovh.com. As shown, banner advertises the emplacement of the new forum. -
I like the slate theme
-
@gertjan We have considered that before the move but remember we had to ditch SMF because it's not GDPR compliant.
