RC 2.2 snapshot on old HW : CD boot : multiple failures

Trying a glimpse at 2.2 with my beloved old - but rock-solid tested - IBM ThinkPad A22p .
with

a) pfSense-LiveCD-2.2-RC-i386-20141212-0643.iso and again with
b) pfSense-LiveCD-2.2-RC-i386-20141213-1326.iso yielding following same results:

RC CD Boot fails negotiating with P-ATA disk :
–> change it: no difference

--> remove it:

RC CD Boot fails : "no ACPI" :

--> disable it in [Options]

RC CD Boot fails again: kernel panic

–> try alternate kernel:

Boot "old" [Kernel]: fails with menu error.

For comparison:

.) pfSense-LiveCD-2.1.5-RELEASE-i386.iso comes up'n'runnin' right from defaults
(without any necessity to rely on the "(2) Boot without ACPI" option).

.) ipFire : dto.

.) Filtering 16.000 kBit aDSL throughput is no problem for this late Pentium-III at all.

Were any additional requirements introduced in the step from 2.15 to 2.20 ?

I too had tried to fix something by turning off ACPI and got a kernal panic too. I have Intel nic built on that will not work on my system with update.

This is based on Freebsd 10.1 maybe read the supported hardware on https://www.freebsd.org/releases/10.1R/hardware.html

No, we include everything stock FreeBSD includes in the kernel, there isn't any missing device support. There can be hardware-specific regressions between FreeBSD releases, most often when your hardware is buggy to begin with but previous releases didn't touch it in such a way that it mattered. That looks to be the root of Topper727's problem.

If the system boots from USB, trying the memstick image instead might be productive. Or since it installs from 2.1.5, installing it and then upgrading to 2.2 might work if the only issue is with the CD for some reason.

and regret having relied upon the BSD descriptions and not
having tested BSD 10.1 RELEASE straight away:

Boot fails on P-ATA same way as described above …

Afterwards, even booting from CD-ROM fails ...

==> This bug seems to be an "upstream" problem.

==> pfSense definitely is not the one to blame !

For comparison, I cross-checked with an Intel Core Duo
( which is somehow 'latest' 32-bit ; in contrast to Core 2 Duo, which is 64-bit ) :

On an IBM ThinkPad T60, the RC starts and gets running fine instantaneously ,
no need to fiddle around at all.

2nd. confirmation:

Positively tested on a Sony Vaio PCG-K315S ( which is Pentium IV aera ) ,
running from CD-boot straigt away.
