I tried to upload a 1MB PNG file as my profile banner and it rejected it saying that the size limit was 2048 K...

Also, what are the bets dimensions to use for the banners? I tried to find info on the NodeBB site but I couldn't find it.

It's a downlink problem from your current location, you can only upload pictures while on earth. 👨‍🚀

OK, with your current picture no-one understands this comment. To explain: at the time of writing it was an astronaut walking on the moon.

Try .jpg instead of .png and lower the quality a bit, keep it at 80% maybe. Check my banner, it's only 106KB.

My point was that a 1 MB file is certainly smaller than a 2 MB file, so why is it giving me errors? And what about the optimal dimensions?

We have seen that before with profile pictures as well, uploading a file under the configured limit still failed. Near as I could tell it might be some kind of conversion issue where the file after it gets cropped/saved on the server side is still too large. Might be something we need to bring up with NodeBB directly.

@ivor I looked at your banner, and it's full of artifacts from being expanded. It looks fuzzy and out of focus. You definitely need more jpg.

Sorry, I missed that the issue was incorrectly reading the size.

...and that's what happens when you upload an image without knowing the supported dimensions. The image gets chewed up and spit out, and generally looks like crap. Jim's suffers from the same problem. His Mario land is fuzzy and loaded with artifacts like jaggies.

Indeed, I just haven't cared enough to go back and fix it. It's not awful, just not perfect. :-)

How can you possibly expect someone to solve network issues when their profile banner has jaggies???

Could you make it a bit more 8-bit pixelated? More retro-charme? 🤣
