I use Minnowboard Dual-e with the fan unplugged ;) It's designed to throttle down in case it overheats.

Yeah, I wondered about this.  Nice tip, thanks ivor.  I unplugged it yesterday.

Sure. Here's another tip, use adapter like this to have console access:

          https://www.adafruit.com/product/954

You can push cable through the case grill (after you open the case). I don't always keep monitor on or nearby, console is far more practical.

what temp does the quad run @ with the fan going then removed?

from the pictures this is a heatsink/ fan combo correct?

2nd question.  i should be able to restore a back from a sg2220 to this device and it work exactly the same correct?

Completely agree.  I ordered this one same time I ordered the board:

but yours is far better due to being able to feed it through the grills.

                Before unplugging: 32C

                After unplugging:  56C

                Noise level difference:  priceless  :)

Also, I didn't remove the fan just unplugged it.

I think that one also supplies the power, be careful not to plug in PSU together with it!

got the system by ups today.  installed 2.43.  restored my backup and everything is working exactly as it was before.

this was maybe a 30 minute downtime?

so far no complaints or issues.  YES the fan is high pitched and irritating

thank you Netgate this was pricey.  but i didn't want ARM and didn't want to spend 999 on the 7100

to the above, i honestly don't remember..

i wanted to share my experience so far. this has been just as reliable as my SG2220. i DID end up unplugging the fan, as it was extremely obnoxious in my living room( yes that is where my coax comes in)

now here is where it gets interesting as i just unplugged it a few days ago. temp went from mid 35 F to 68-70 F. then i got the idea to change the PowerD settings under misc - advanced. i changed them ALL to adaptive. on the home page it is actually now listing the CPU as changing speeds and the temp is down to 56-58 F. before when i changed AC power nothing ever changed temp wise or cpu wise?

apparently this does't kick in until you change unknown power?

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere.. but what kinds of speeds can the MBT-2220 (Dual-E) support for non VPN traffic? Will it be sufficient for a 300/300Mbps connection from ISP?

                          Thanks!

Yup, it will be more than sufficient for 300/300. Both units can achieve up to a gigabit throughput.
