SG-2440: fdisk command fails during installation
-
Hi,
I'm having an issue with two SG-2440: I can't reinstall pfsense on them.
I am using the image: pfSense-netgate-memstick-ADI-2.3.2-RELEASE-amd64.img since I already installed it successfully on the SG-2440 in the past.
Now, when I try to install it, I get the following error:
BSD Installer started DFUI connection on tcp:9999 successfully established ,- opened pty to '/sbin/sysctl -n hw.physmem' < 3560206336 `- closed pty to '/sbin/sysctl -n hw.physmem' `/sbin/sysctl -n hw.physmem` returned: 3560206336 ,- opened pty to '/sbin/sysctl -n kern.disks' < da1 da0 `- closed pty to '/sbin/sysctl -n kern.disks' `/sbin/sysctl -n kern.disks` returned: da1 da0 Testing da1 Invoking survey for da1 Surveying Disk: da1 ... ,- opened pty to '/sbin/atacontrol list' < /sbin/atacontrol: not found ( EOF ) `- closed pty to '/sbin/atacontrol list' ,- opened pty to '/sbin/fdisk da1' < ******* Working on device /dev/da1 ******* < parameters extracted from in-core disklabel are: < cylinders=950 heads=255 sectors/track=63 (16065 blks/cyl) registered UINav atom 'main/install/pfsense_after_install' UINav.Atom 'main/install/finished' was configured as 'ignore' couldn't register UINav atom from file '800_finished.lua' registered UINav atom 'main/install/Serial_reg' registered UINav atom 'main/install/reboot' 'main.lua' skipped, it is the currently executing script Flow executing -> main/install/select_disk (Select Disk) [Wed Jun 27 01:13:30 2018] Flow executing -> main/install/format_disk (Format Disk) [Wed Jun 27 01:13:36 2018] ,-<<< Executing `/usr/local/sbin/cleargpt.sh da1' [Wed Jun 27 01:14:04 2018] | gpart: Invalid value for 'i' argument: Invalid argument | gpart: arg0 'da1': Invalid argument `->>> Exit status: 0 [Wed Jun 27 01:14:12 2018] ,-<<< Executing `/sbin/fdisk -I da1' | fdisk: can't get disk parameters on /dev/da1 | fdisk: cannot open disk /dev/da1: No such file or directory `->>> Exit status: 1
Running the fdisk command manually also fails:
root@pfSense:/usr/local/www # fdisk /dev/da1 fdisk: can't get disk parameters on /dev/da1 fdisk: cannot open disk /dev/da1: No such file or directory
Trying to simply read the internal flash with dd also fails:
root@pfSense:/usr/local/www # dd if=/dev/da1 of=/dev/null dd: /dev/da1: Device not configured 0+0 records in 0+0 records out 0 bytes transferred in 0.000143 secs (0 bytes/sec)
It seems that we have an issue with the internal flash, does someone has a suggestion on how to fix this?
Thank you.

Can you please confirm you are attempting to re-install pfSense as described here in this guide? https://www.netgate.com/docs/pfsense/solutions/sg-2440/reinstall-pfsense.html
-
Yes that's what I did. Note that I already successfully reinstalled pfsense on these devices several times in the past using the exact same image.
