Do you have the arpwatch package installed?
-
@johnpoz
I didn’t, but have installed it now.I’m also seeing this spamming the system log now-
code Jul 4 07:17:00 ntopng [AlertsManager.cpp:1158] ERROR: SQL Error: database disk image is malformed select * FROM engaged_alerts WHERE 1=1 AND alert_engine = 0
Possibly caused by the hard reset I had to do on the 3100 to recover. Not sure how to fix this though?
-
Yeah hard reset can cause corruption.. Prob best to do a clean install..
While I have not actual proof of the arpwatch issue.. I was seeing stability issues where could not access pfsense either via console, ssh or web and it would lock up randomly on package installs. Since I removed arpwatch its back to normal.

In that case I'll probably uninstall it.
I've noticed an issue with temperatures as well. Netgate specs an operating temperature of 0C to 65C. My temps seem to average between 62C and 69C with very little CPU activity.
When I regained access to my 3100 immediately after the hard reset I noticed that the temp displayed was 67C. I haven't found any info regarding what automated actions might be expected with high temps, but was just exploring possibilities. There are no temp warnings in the system log but maybe the are logged somewhere else? This box is installed in my home and normally the ambient temperature will be 85F during the day when no one is home.

Since we don't know the events that lead to your SG-3100 being offline, I'd suggest you re-install pfSense. Simply follow this guide https://www.netgate.com/docs/pfsense/solutions/sg-3100/reinstall-pfsense.html
Let us know if it happens again!

After re-installing can I restore my settings and packages from backup?
-
Correct, assuming you made the backup prior to re-installing.

@ivor
Thanks. Finally got a chance to re-install. Got to say that I don't much like the USB port on this machine. Never had to fight so hard to insert a flash drive. Thought I would break it for sure before it finally went in, and then it didn't want to come back out. Looks like the re-install went smoothly though.Now I guess it's a waiting game to see if the problem recurs.
