      We have an SG-2220 that got struck by lightning. I can access it via the serial port and can see that the configs got wiped and that it can't find any of the interfaces on it.

      We bought it from netgate on August 1st last year; is there a warranty and would it cover this?

      Thanks!

        Hi @kbenoit,

        Have you tried to re-image the box? There is a guide how to install pfsense https://www.netgate.com/docs/pfsense/install/installing-pfsense.html I would recommend you use etcher (https://etcher.io) to burn an image to memory stick. You can also open a ticket (go.netgate.com ) to get help from TAC.

          I'll try that. I'll reply with results when finished. Thanks!

            @GRinch Reinstalled pfsense on it:

            In short, no luck. It still can't find the interfaces:

            I didn't realize I could do an RMA request without a support contract. I'll open a ticket.

            Thanks for the help!

              Could have fried the ethernet chip. I had an SG-2440 that took collateral damage when the cable modem was hit by lightning.

                @dotdash That sounds reasonable. I didn't open it up, but I didn't see (or smell) any burn marks from the vents.

                In any case, I opened a ticket and got an RMA approved.

                  So you told netgate it died after a lightning strike and they still agreed to cover it under warranty (free of charge)? If so, you are lucky. That is some extraordinary customer service. They are going way above and beyond to cover something that is no fault of theirs.

                    @gfeiner I don't know about that, to be honest. I linked them this post and the title for the ticket was the same as the title for this post. They didn't say it'd be free, but they also didn't say it wouldn't be free. I guess we'll find out the fun way. If they do replace it, I totally agree; that's well above and beyond.

                      If it does cost to repair/replace, your insurance should cover it. Either homeowners or renter's insurance.
