@Blade-Runner What's up with Snort? I plan to upgrade from 2.4.3p1 to 2.4.4 on Saturday, but I have Snort running as an essential security point.

I too, had no issues with upgrading from 2.4.3p1 to 2.4.4 and system seems to be operating okay. I uninstalled pfblockerng_devel, nut and suricata before upgrading as per the long standing, normal, pFsense upgrade rules and let it reinstall the packages that I uninstalled. Everything reinstalled with no issues and is working.

@jdeloach So you 'd recommend uninstalling pfBlockerNG and Snort before the update? Will the settings be preserved if I reinstall them after the upgrade?

Any other packages which are recommended to be removed before the update? I had no issues yet with updating the system without removing packages before.

I will of course make a Snapshot of my VM before I try any upgrade action ;-)

@jacotec My post was not specific. I didn't have any upgrade issues. Snort was uninstalled and re-installed without issues.

Do not be afraid to fail.

The settings are preserved if the appropriate box is checked in each package. In the past as far as I can remember, the recommend way to upgrade pFsense has ALWAYS been to uninstall ALL installed packages before performing the upgrade and let the system reinstall the removed packages. I don't think this has changed and I noticed @jimp also posted this in another post yesterday. I would do this since most of the issues with this upgrade seem to be with php changing from version 5.6 to version 7.2.

Uneventful for me as well. I listened to the advice on uninstalling all packages first, then re-installing after the update was complete. There was a minor hiccup with NUT finding the attached UPS, but after powering down both Pfsense and the UPS, and bringing back up, issue solved!

I'll add myself to this list as well. Upgrade went without issues on a PC running CE and my SG-1000.

I guess I've been living life on the edge. I have never uninstalled packages before upgrading including this latest update. nut, suricata, pfblockerng, squid, ntopng, backup, sylogng, openvpn client export, all seem to have updated fine and are running smoothly.
