    force upgrade "pfsense 2.3.6-DEVELOPMENT (i386)"?

            2.3.x is, as announced loooong time ago, EOL.
            Maybe some security patches, I guess, but that's it.

              The 2.3.x snapshot servers are not building any longer. There is nothing to update to from what that hardware is running. i386 is no longer supported.

                I will install the latest version on 64-bit hardware, can I have trouble restoring the backup from an I386 version?

                  That will be fine, you can even take a backup with RRD data and restore that and be OK.

                      Yes, only security fixes will be released for one year.
