SG-3100, Wi-Fi options or not?

I'm about to roll out a handful of low-to-middle end devices for clients and the SG-3100 fits nicely price wise. Typically I would pair this up with Wireless Access points e.g. Unifi. For very small deployments I'm wondering if there is any workable option for using the PCIe or M.2 slots in the unit for an "all in one" solution.

I know the mantra is "WiFi sucks on FreeBSD" but just want to ask if anything has changed. Especially considering Netgate's own product page specifically mentions WiFi not once, but twice in the specs...

Is there anyone who's done this with any degree of success?

Do yourself a favour, especially as your supporting it.

Just buy Unifi APs

Maybe buy yourself one, install the controller and see what you can do with it.

I would say it's technically possible in a pinch, but a firewall case is generally a bad place to put a radio.

If you only need to cover a room or two, and 802.11g (maybe n) is OK, then I suppose you could do it, but I'd still split off the AP 99.9% of the time. You get better signal, better support for modern wireless protocols, and in all likelihood, better wireless stability.

Nog- I have 3 controllers already, with a couple hundred APs hanging off of 'em. I'm definitely aware of the Unifi stuff!

Say no more. If you say it's not a great idea, that's enough for me! I'll stick to the tried and true. But, I still cross my fingers and hope that one day there will be a decent option here. If not for the cost savings, then simply for the smaller footprint and less things to stick on the wall...
