Trouble with interface | ix0, ix1, igb0, igb1 on SuperMicro X10SDV-4C-TLN4F-O
-
Hello,
I am testing a SuperMicro X10SDV-4C-TLN4F-O board [ http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon/D/X10SDV-4C-TLN4F.cfm ]. At first I was able to use the gigabit interfaces (igb0, igb1) and after a power cycle these weren't detected anymore. pfSense detects ix0 and ix1 which work fine; but pfSense doesn't seem to detect ibg0 and igb1 anymore.
I would like to know how I could fix this as I would like to be able to use all four interfaces.
- Dual LAN via Intel i350-AM2 Gigabit Ethernet
- Dual LAN via SoC 10GBase-T
- Virtual Machine Device Queues reduce I/O overhead
- Supports 10GBASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 1000BASE-T, RJ45 output
- 1 Realtek RTL8201N PHY (dedicated IPMI)

Are the igb port shown in dmesg at all?
Are they in
pciconf -lv
?Disabled in the BIOS somehow?

Thank you @stephenw10. These must be disabled somehow but I did not yet find where.
I did read something about BCM / IPMI. The default behaviour seems to be that IPMI tries another LAN port when it did not receive an IP address by DHCP on the dedicated IPMI port.
I'll look at the BIOS settings again. Thanks.

Yes in a lot of Supermicro boxes the IPMI will default to sharing one of the other ports rather than using only it's dedicated port. That should not stop them appearing even as PCI devices in pfSense though.

Just done running several tests (also with Linux and so on). We are unable to get the 1GB NIC's up and running. Decided to return the board and order a new one. Will keep you updated.
[EDIT] Our RMA guy took some time too to look at the board and couldn't find out why the 1GB NIC's won't work. He also checked all the jumpers and found out that these are all in the correct position. Our conclusion so far is that the board appears to be broken. He also noticed that the board runs with the latest BIOS version and so on. So time to return the board and get another one.

Ouch! Better than some software/firmware bug I guess though.
