I can access the web gui from my laptop, but not from my desktop. The desktop gets a IP from the router but cant ping it... Very confusing.

      Any thoughts?

        Noop.
        Missing details.
How is your desktop connecting ? Laptop ?

You have access to the GUI, does the desktop obtain an IP (DNS, gateway, etc) : check the dhcp log in the GUI.

Also : what are the network settings on the desktop ? DHCP ? Or you set static settings ?

Both devices are hardwired to same switch. Both devices are non-static dhcp leased by pfsense and show up on the gui, which is accessible from every device on network besides said "desktop".

            Compare the output of

            ipconfig /all

            on both PCs.

If they have the same gateway, and same DNS - but a different IP, in the same network, then network and pfSense are ok.
pfSense doesn't "like your laptop" and "dislikes your desktop". Must be something non-default or your desktop.

Everything between them is identical besides IPv4 address... I tried playing around and giving the desktop static IP from both windows and pfsense but it didn't make a difference..

              odd situation.

Sounds like layer 2 issues. This stuff pretty much just works.

The LAN firewall rule set on pfsense is "default" ?

You're aware that PC's also have firewall rules - they could have been "modified" ?

                  Time to switch your cables.

@derelict just reset switch, both devices are on the same one. No luck.

Like power down / power up ? Dumb switch or a smart one ?
Change ports on the switch / use the cables for the desktop that you used for the laptop.

@gertjan yes and I tried turning off the firewall, I never manipulated anything in there that has to do with this. tried the powerup/down and port switching. no difference

                        Dumb switch
