user removed from wheel group after reboot
-
Hi all,
pfSense 2.4.4, FreeBSD 11.2
I've added a few users (with full admin access) in web GUI.
Now trying to grant them shell root access as below:
pw groupmod wheel -m myuser
or
pw usermod myuser -G wheel
in both cases I can see myuser appended to wheel group in /etc/group but after OS reboot it disappears.
How do I make it permanent?
Thanks,
Adam -
Use the User manager of the web configurator and add them to the admins group:
-
They are already members of admins group and I can see it in /etc/group
But how do I elevate privileges in shell:
su - Sorry: su
sudo su - sudo: Command not found.
?

So also assign the the appropriate privileges to them:
sudo is not delivered with pfSense. You may install the subo package if you need it.
-
Use the sudo package. Do not manually modify accounts in the shell. pfSense isn't engineered to allow what you are attempting to stay long-term.

See this recent thread for additional detail.
