WAN Monitoring and Packet Loss

Hi all,
Trying to workout some performance problem with my pfSense 2.4x installed in an ESXi 6.7 Virtual machine.the packet loss chart on the right shows consistent ~30% packet loss, this is while I'm doing heavy downloads... around 50Mbit/sec ( my total pipe is about 62Mbit/sec)
When I shut the downloads down and the WAN traffic becomes almost non existent, the packet loss goes to zero.
I notice when I'm playing a "remote" movie via Plex, bandwidth utilisation is about 700Kb with packet loss of about 2%
Is this typical behavior?

I would not expect that unless you're saturating the link which you clearly aren't using Plex.
What is the WAN monitoring? Try choosing some other external IP if it's still set to use the gateway IP.

Are you suggesting 2% to 3% is not typical for such a light load of traffic of ~700kb?

Well all links are different but, no, I would not expect that.
What is your WAN connection?
That behaviour looks very similar to that shown by some buggy cable modems.can you test without ESXi in the mix?
Can you test with a client connected directly to the modem?

2 to 3% is not typical no...
Here is last week... I saturate my 500 down all the time!! When I move files from my box in the NL to my PC grabbing 100's of GB in a few minutes... Really saturates my line.. Notice the scale there .07 max...
But sure depending if you fill your pipe your pings might suffer on quality...

So problem went away when I moved ( well rebuilt) my pfSense router in a new VM on a different host with different NIC's.
The original install utilised Realtek r811 nics, the new one using an HP 4 port lan card.
Haven;t dropped a packet since..... 2 Day chart below ( have been utilising the WAN interface pretty hard )

Nice.
Realtek NICs are better than they used to be but there's a reason they still have a bad rep.
