Hi all. This is my first post. I currently have a pfsense box with a G4620 Kaby Lake Dual-Core 3.7 GHz LGA 1151 and 8gb of RAM. Pfsense is running as a vm on top of Proxmox.

This build was intentionally cheap so that I could see if I liked pfsense. I would now like to upgrade the build to run the following packages and features:

      Pfblockerng
      An outgoing vpn client
      A vpn server
      Suracta or Snort
      Ntop
Netdata (a fun package that lets you monitor all kinds of activity)

What hardware do I need to make everything run smoothly? I think that Proxmox gives an additional 2gb of overhead.

      Thanks

I would expect it to run fine on that hardware even as a VM.

What bandwidth do you expect to see through it? How much of that needs to be encrypted?

        Steve

Thanks for your patience with my response. I am going for gigabit unencrypted. I am not sure yet how much encrypted traffic I will have.

          Thanks

I would expect that hardware to pass 1Gbps no problem at all if it's unencrypted. Even with those packages.
