has anyone been able to update the minnowboard firmware. if so what steps have you followed.

i have checked youtube and searching onsite. i have a dual nic minnowboard and i am unable to get it to upgrade.

i am familiar with upgrading through windows based machines no problem. but for linux based OS. this is not my territory.

i have plugged a hdmi cable into my laptop and i can see the screen. but it will not boot of off the usb stick like it says from intel. its fat 32. and i have both files on the root of the drive.. not really sure what i am doing wrong

          So your trying to do
          https://minnowboard.org/tutorials/updating-the-firmware

What is the current firmware, what firmware are you trying to update to?

Where exactly in the process is it failing.. Is it detecting the usb? There is a whole part in the instructions that show tell you if usb detected, etc. etc..

What exact minnowboard are you working with - I assume one you got from netgate?

I’ve tried both USB ports for the drives/ keyboard combo. I the keyboard won’t work. That’s the latest issue... before it woujd not boot to uefi

I then got a dell keyboard with a usb hub built in and it works but I am unable to boot to the uefi screen it mentions..

I have the quad core board purchased from netgate

I won’t have time for screen shots but I can possibly later today.. since it says remove any drives should I remove the SSD installed?

              i followed the directions AGAIN

i plugged in the drive. it detected it.

i let the pfsense boot. press 8 for shell. i never get a menu they talk about. UEFI interactive shell..

i type fs0: and it lists the same data originally when i typed LS. it doesn't change the driver letter.

this is apparently very simple? but i don't understand how. i am following the directions exactly. but i don't have what is in the instruction...

You need to be on the UEFI shell, not the FreeBSD shell. So either disconnect your normal boot device or change the boot options in the BIOS.

But if you really lack the knowledge for something as basic as this you shouldn't meddle with BIOS updates.

that was all it took. i am actually surprised the device boot afterwards i expected the worse

i went into the boot menu and manually chose efi shell and was able to update:

Was there any particular fix/feature in that update you needed?

                      needed? no Sir
that i am aware of, but number 11 looked pretty similar to the initial issue i was having:

                      1. Fixed the issue that USB device may not be detected at system power-on.

Ah, interesting. Did it appear to help? I've seen those be fussy about USB sticks.
