OpenVPN throughput pfsense 2.4.4
-
Yes was wondering if anyone has had success figuring out how to tweak openvpn with ver 2.4.4? I was running 2.4.2 before and could get up to 400 Mbps down, but now i'm lucky to get between 100 and 200. I've tried everything possible. Currently I have AES-NI enabled in advanced settings and on the openvpn client I have No Hardware Acceleration and No LZO Compression. I'm currently trying out Nord VPN. I'm getting same results with PIA and with PIA I used to get over 400 easy. With PIA changing to AES-128-GCM doesn't help. Also using UDP by the way.

What hardware are you using?
Here is my speeds, and I'm on latest version of pfSense.

One like this. Also I did get 400Mbps at one time on it before I updated to 2.4.4.
HP T620 Plus thin client
AMD SoC GX-420CA 4-core 2Ghz (supports AES-NI)
4GB DDR3 PC3L-12800S (expandable up to 16GB=8GBx2)
16GB M.2 SSD
4-port 1Gbps PCI-E ethernet card (Intel i340-T4, usually HP branded, but some times IBM)
1-port 1Gbps onboard Realtek ethernet -
To add to that I also tried increasing the buffer size and decreasing. Also tried the MTU sizes. My cpu doesn’t hardly break a sweat when it hits 140Mbps.

I also discovered turning on fast-io is doing nothing for speed in 2.4.4
