Static IP's on LAN devices not routing?

Hi all,
I'm new to pfSense, but have an interesting issue whereby I have devices connected via VLAN to my LAN network. If the devices get a DHCP address from the created pool on the VLAN, they work fine and can access internet. However, if I manually enter an IP address in the same network from outside the DHCP range, I get no internet access.
As an example:
VLAN 1
Network - 192.168.1.0
Router - 192.168.1.1
DHCP Range - 192.168.1.11 - 192.168.1.254Device gains IP in the DHCP range = fine.
If I set the device IP to, for example - 192.168.1.5 = no internet.I need some devices to have static connectivity. I thought being on the same .0 network, would automatically mean I'd have no issues. Is this normal behavior? Is my configuration likely missing something? Do I need to configure static routes for static VLAN IP's, new firewall rules, or something else?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Your prob forgetting to say give the client DNS... See it all the time.
Unless you setup rules on your vlan interface to only allow the dhcp range.. No doesn't matter if you got from dhcp or not..
Post up your vlan rules just to be clear your not doing something odd.

@johnpoz I have checked and rechecked all my rules, and as it turns out, your first instinct was correct! It was a DNS issue. While I was indeed giving the clients the correct DNS manually, the devices required an "apply" button on a totally seperate screen, and in one instance a complete reboot, to reconnect properly.
Would help if the apply button wasn't hidden, and didn't say "connected to network with [static IP]" BEFORE the apply button was (found) and clicked! D'oh!Thank you!!!!
