      Hello everyone

I am currently suffering from packet lost from the getaway

My current ISP is comcast/xfinity Modem : Motorola MB8600
My setup is pfsense on the DELL R320 way over the minimum requirements of ram cpu for pfsense installation. My network card is Chelsio 2x40G For Internal network and Intel Pro 1000 VT Quad Port for WAN. One of the ports is connected directly to the modem with CAT8 2GHz cable rated for 10/25/40G

Behind the modem I replaced the old Coax that Comcast provided to me nearly 14 years a go ☺ with high speed coax at 2GHz also, but it seems the problem is from the inside the network

When I ping the getaway from the inside I've got a very disturbing round time results from the ping 7,23,40,2,132,11,34ms followed by time out sometimes few timeouts

In Status/Gateways I am getting Packet Loss and changing all the time from zero to sometimes 20% witch disconnects all my remote sessions to that network

It is pointless to contact xfinity customer support because they will say "OK I have sent 10 packets to the gateway and there was no losses" and I am afraid this time they might be right

      Any suggestions ????

ssh onto your router, ping for a longer time period-

        ping -c 10000 external ip

        ping -c 10000 internal ip

What do your Status -> Monitoring Quality graphs look like.

Sounds like you have an issue between the router and server, is there a switch ?

Are there errors on the interfaces Status -> Interfaces ?

What does the ping times look like to pfsense interface from this device on the lan..

Is the device even connected via wire - or is the device your pinging from wireless?

If you were seeing packet loss to your gateway then pfsense quality graph should reflect that.

            @nogbadthebad Hello

            Sorry for the late response

Yes there is a switch NEXUS 3132Q 40G switch
the pfsense is equipped with 3x40G Chelsio T580-SO-CR

ping between pfsense and any host of the internal network is less then 0.05ms
also pinging the external IP I've been given by the ISP DHCP server is less then 0.05ms
the problem is the gateway IP this is where I have packet loss

This is ping from pfsense to the ISP Gateway

This is ping from one of my host to the ISP gateway

Do you see that same loss if you ping, for example, 8.8.8.8?

If not just edit the gateway and set the monitoring IP to that instead. Or some other external IP.

Do you have more than one WAN if not you can disable the monitoring action on the gateway. You will still get data but pfSense won't start reloading stuff if the loss goes over 20%.

It seems like maybe the Comcast gateway IP is just not good at responding to pings and it doesn't have to be. If they ping your modem from their end they won't necessarily see that loss.
