I've been load balancing between VDSL and 4G (by adding a gateway pointing to an OpenWRT box which handles connection to the MiFi device).

I realise this results in a double-NAT on the 4G side, but in the past I've never really had an issue with this, especially as any servers are accessible over the VDSL line only.

But every so often I'm having issues with stalls or Firefox reporting "network protocol error". I wondered if I've missed something or is this a known issue with double-NAT or load balancing itself?

I haven't seen this happen when using the 4G MiFi directly, but then I haven't used it extensively. I plan to test this shortly but wondered if anything obvious jumped out at anyone in the meantime?

I will be switching to dual-VDSL and 4G shortly so will be able to check if it still happens on VDSL only balancing, but it would be nice to get this stable in the meantime.

Done further checking as my VDSL line has an MTU of 1500 but the 4G only handles 1440.

Could it be the constant switch between the two that is tripping up the web browser?
