Adding a physical com interface?
-
Hello.
Been running my appliance for about 7 months and love the thing.
Rock solid and does all I want it to do and does it well.
When building it, I had a brain fart and forgot all about a com port. The board I used does not have one and neither does it have a com header on the board either.
So, can I and if I can, what is the best way of getting one added?
I have a PCIe slot free, can I add a RS232 card in there and were golden?
Any problems with pfSense picking up controllers not "onboard" so to speak?
Having spent 7 months in a temporary location and proven its worth, I will soon be relocating the appliance to a permanent location which will not have keyboard/mouse/monitor so SSH access is needed.
Grateful for any pointers, thanks.

Read up on what chipset the card is using and check the FreeBSD manual to see whether it is supported.

@Grimson Thanks.
https://www.freebsd.org/releases/12.0R/hardware.html#support
Section 3.6
I assume that is what your refering to?
No mention of PCIe what I can see.
Are there other options alternative to replacing the mainboard?

Again: Pick an addon card, read up what chipset/controller it's using for the RS232 port and then check whether it is supported by FreeBSD. The PCIe bus has nothing to do with it.
