So this morning I found out my pFsense machine was not turned on, due to (I assume) power outage overnight. After turning it on, I soon realised something wasn't working properly, so I plugged in the monitor have lying around for these types of situations, and was greeted by this error:

      error 123 lba 24852783
      Invalid format

      FreeBSD/i386 boot
      Default: 0:ad(0,a)/boot/kernel/kernel
      boot:

Is there any way to salvage this or is the hard drive corrupted and I'd have to do a fresh install?

There's a very good chance that drive is dead. You can try a reinstall, but that's about as low level of a failure as you'll see short of the drive not being detected at all. I'd run the HD diag tool from the vendor of the hard drive first, and only reinstall if thorough tests come back clean.
