System freeze when updating SquidGuard blacklist

Everything was working fine from 2015. However, since last Feb 2019, I can not seem to load shallalist (not sure about the other lists). I think download completes successfully but when configuring, the system is stuck/froze (I do not have the system error with me and I can not seem to locate it in the logs as it was immediately covered by other logs--I think).
What I have seen in the log window (blacklist tab) is something like:
Begin blacklist update Start download. Download archive http://www_shallalist_de/Downloads/shallalist_tar_gz Download complete Unpack archive Scan blacklist categories. Start rebuild DB. Completed 60%That is when system freezes--at 60%. I've tried it several times through several restarts and even changed the HD.

In the directory /var/db/squidGuard, the shallalist is nowhere to be found. However, the target categories I added manually are still there and is currently being used by squidguard.

I'm using a legacy hardware (pentium dualcore with 2GB RAM) waiting to be refreshed. Last 2015 or 2016, when I decided to upgrade to 2.1.5, error hit me and required me to reinstall. So I just reverted to 2.1.3.

Nobody likes trying to troubleshoot an issue on an ancient version of pfSense from yesteryear. You should have worked to get that error you saw in 2.1.5 fixed and stayed current. Now that the x86 images are gone, it's too late.
Maybe your disk is low on space? Have you tried removing squidguard, cleaning up the filesystem and then reinstalling it?

I know. Plenty of disk space. This is on new disk but config was from a backup. So yes, squidguard has been reinstalled.
Now working on upgrading hardware.
