How do I Increase "Member Down" time for Fail Over ? The documentation says defualt is 10 seconds and it can be changed but doesn't say how.

The problem is we have a Fixed Wireless (4G with roof antena unit) and a backup 4G hotspot. But when the connection is heavily used it loses pings (as they are first to be dropped I guess) and latency can go up to 800ms. So it sees the WAN as down and switches to the 4G hotspot. Also it is common for the 4G hotspot to have latency that is higher than the default threshold for failover.

I want to try pinging for 30 or 60 seconds before marking WAN as down.

Under System > Routing, edit a gateway and click Display Advanced. There you can tweak how the gateway is probed and when it is considered in an alarm or down state.

@jimp Thank you. I can't believe I missed the Advanced button. pfsense really needs an overhaul of the interface and a search option like Android has for settings.

Under Routing -> Advanced -> Weight is 1 the highest priority or is say 3 higher than 1 ?

Which is the option to trying pinging for 30 seconds instead of 10 before marking interface as down ?

Is there a way to tell / display an alert when an interface is down in the dashboard ?

Weight only matters with Multi-WAN and load balancing gateway groups (all gateways on the same tier), and higher weights receive more traffic. The weights setup a ratio. For example, if you have one gateway set to 1, and the other set to 3, then the gateway set to 3 will receive 3/4 of the traffic, and the remaining 1/4 will go to the weight of 1.

Read the entire Additional Information section under the advanced options for the gateway. It explains everything.

            The gateways widget.
