I upgraded a couple of realtek cards that i was using with the 1.95 realtek binary and everything was working ok as far as i know. I decided to remove all the realteks and put in a Dell Intel I350-T2 with the expectation that I could use HW offloading, but when I went to enable it I instantly lost internet. Disabling and a reboot later it was back up. To test if it was a fluke I did the same thing and had the same results.

I am very new at pfsense (1st post!), is there something I'm missing? I researched this card and it appeared to be capable of doing hw offload so not sure if its the card or me.

Is there any real advantage of the i350 card versus the realteks since I wasn't having issues? Is there a better NIC that will work? confused.....

        What offloading specifically?

The Intel NIC is better in almost every way. I would definitely use that regardless of whether you're using hardware off-loading.
But yeah, which offloading options? None of them really help that much on a firewall anyway.

under System-->Advanced--> Networking; Hardware Checksum Offloading. if it's not really going to help then I will leave disabled.

Hmm, that is usually OK to have enabled but yeah I;d just leave it disabled if it's causing a problem.
