Memory, cpu, and network is much better with two usb 3.0 ports
Anyone know how to build it for the new PI4?
I hope to have my PI4 this friday, I want to try to build it for the PI4 hoping there is a starting point for it to experiment with.

I don't think ARM images are generally available, and building pfSense for x64 seems to be a challenge so I don't know if anyone can build ARM either. I could be wrong though.

I'll use it for to upgrade my rpi3 b.
Currently running a samba domain controller, apache2 with php ldap ssl, unify controller, nfsen/nfdump..
It's always running on swap... lol -
Netgate SG1100 3100 are ARM.... Pi4 will kill these expensive thing. But, please do release the PfSense for Pi4 because it's such as good, efficient machine. One Pi4 can do home automation, router/AP, security, and entertainment system... as long as the software can work together. Great little toy for vacation homes, or AirBB

You know that from what crystal ball? ;) Two hardware thingies, two use cases. Raspi is/was never intended as a network gateway device or it would have been equipped with two NICs. Yes you can use VLANs. But it's not your normal gateway hardware. Neither are Intel NUCs btw (at least the ones with one NIC).
So only because the new one still costs less than a SG1100 (espressobin) it will crush it? Any performance counts for that? ;) And I'd wait with that until the crypto driver is ready for those 1100s and compare them again. I love me some raspberry myself but I'd stay away running one for pfSense or firewalls in general. There simply are better platforms for that and a few may even be ARM, yes. BTW the SG3100 is ARM, too.

Would love to run pfSense on my Pi4 (4GB) with a USB 3.0 Gb Ethernet adapter. Seems this thread is already a little off track. I'll continue looking for resources to accomplish this.
(I run multiple installations of pfSense, in different environments, on a variety of hardware. The one I'm sitting behind right now is running in VMWare Player on the same machine I'm typing this message on, using the two onboard NICs (Gigabyte H370n-Wifi, i5 8400) and a Realtek USB 3.0 Gb Ethernet adapter. Configuration made possible with Virtual Network Editor (vmnetcfg.exe.) Might sound awkward, but it's been a flawless experience, 120 Mbps connection, always on site to site VPN, OpenVPN for remote user connection, multiple other packages..)

no one say that it will not work but that it is not designed to do it, it's not only a question of performance but also of reliability over time, nevertheless at home people can do whatever they want, pfsense is open source after all, i can install it on my microwave bridged with my steam iron

id love to see pfsense running on Pi4.
There are definitely use cases for this setup (this power.. this limited Eths etc.. there is always a place to put a Pi :) ) -
Can't recall now where it was I read it-- wait, I think thats it, Reddit. Anyway, all indications suggest this project is a go.
(And I can't believe I missed it when I created my user account, but pifSense (pī-ef-sens,) rather rolls off the tongue.)

Raspberry has an ARMv8 processor, but without the cryptographic accelaration to keep costs down and/or to avoid legal restrictions on the import, export or use of cryptographic hardware and software.
