IBM Intel Pro 1000 PT Quad Port Server Adapter PCI-E-39Y6138
-
Hi there,
I am going to buy a 2nd hand Quad network port card.
https://www.ebay.com/p/IBM-Intel-Pro-1000-PT-Gigabit-Quad-Port-Server-Adapter-Pci-e-39Y6138-39y6137/1800254231
https://www.amazon.com/IBM-1000-Server-Adapter-39Y6137/dp/B002AWDLGQI did google a bit and found this link: https://forum.netgate.com/topic/70254/intel-pro-1000-pt-quad-is-not-recognized-in-pfsense-2-1-3
Does this card has compatible issue with pfSense?
I hope someone can give some advice.
Thank you.

I checked the FREEBSD 11.2 Hardware Support List:
https://www.freebsd.org/releases/11.2R/hardware.html#ethernetIt is listed as Intel Pro/1000 PT Quard Port Server Adapter (82571), does it means it is supported?

I don't think you'll have an issue, but you might want to consider something like the IBM 49Y4241 (I340 chipset) or another OEM 82580 variant which is a generation newer and just as inexpensive, and also hypervisor aware if you ever expect to do the VM thing...

it was a very old 3d, from back 2014 as for the rest follow provels's suggestions

Thanks for replying......
My purpose of writing this topic is to get a definitive answer to my question:
Whether pfSense will work with IBM Intel Pro 1000 PT Quad Port Server Adapter PCIE 39Y6138 ?
I am sure someone will definitely come across this network card when building a pfSense firewall appliance.I had the Intel I340-T4 2nd Hand, it is working fine with pfSense. Just that I am going to build another one.....
This card is based on the 82580 chip controller. It has no issue with pfSense. However, because I am not based in USA, I can only afford to buy what is available locally.
The 2nd hand supplier only got stock on the IBM Intel Pro 1000 PT Quad Port Server Adapter PCI-E-39Y6138
which is selling at around USD $42.00 after doing the currency conversion.So....there is the predicament.........buy the Intel Pro 1000 PT Quad Port? or go for Intel I340-T4?
Another information I googled, the Intel Pro 1000 PT Quad Port is using 2 pcs of Intel 82571 chip.

i found this more recent..
https://www.reddit.com/r/PFSENSE/comments/813qo3/recommend_50_nics_for_building_a_pfsense_router/i see people that had trouble with that card if used with new motherboard, it seems that it's too old for / incompatible with new gen pci-e

Alright, thanks for the link and the information given.
I hope the forum has a sticky so to show all the compatible NIC available from Intel/IBM/HP/DELL.
So that builders like me, can refer it as a quick reference.Lesson learned here, not all Intel NICs are supported, you need to do your
thorough research before it is too late to return it back to the supplier.
Especially most supplier does not allow to accept any return, if it is not faulty.Thank you.
