SSD storage size limit for M.2 2280 on SG-3100?

I just bought a KingSpec 256GB M.2 SSD 2280 SATA III on Amazon.com to use in an SG-3100. It is Prime Day, that's my excuse. The size is overkill, but I do expect to be doing a lot of logging since the SG-3100 is used at a small high school (500 students).

My impulse was to buy it at $33.90, but I wonder whether there is a disk-size limitation in the BIOS of the SG, or in the FreeBSD OS that runs on the ARM FreeBSD 11.2-RELEASE-p10?

I see that the SG-5100 will accept a 256GB SSD according to the post by Phizix on 3/7/2019, but my question still stands regarding the SG-3100. Thanks.

SG-5100 -- Verify that M.2 SSD is recognized after physically installing: I have just installed an M.2 SSD (WD 2242 M.2 256GB) and expected that the hardware would attempt to boot from the new M.2 and complain that it could not, but it happily booted from the eMMC as before.

Are you sure you reinstalled to the new SSD and not just right back to the eMMC? During bootup you can enter bios setup and modify the boot order so the new SSD is before the eMMC

Thanks for your reply, gfeiner. The sentence that starts with the word "SG-5100 -- " was a quote from a post that Phizix made in March, 2019. Those are not my words. Sorry, but I have not learned how to paste quotes into my posts so that they are indented and let other people know that they are just quotes from other people's posts.

I will install the 256GB SSD in 3 weeks, during some down time, and then let you and the forum know how it worked.

I'm not aware of any specific size limit there though I've only personally tried 32GB and 64GB.

We have seen issues with larger SSDs (1TB) being recognised but that was in different hardware.

@stephenw10 thank you for letting me know that the 256GB M.2 SSD should work in the SG-3100. I won't be able to install it for a while, yet. When I do, I'll post status here.

@alpharulez Sorry, but I never got around to installing the M.2 2280 SSD in the SG-3100. It went into production and I didn't want to disrupt the school's network.
If I switch routers in the future, I will be upgrading the storage when I bring the 3100 back into the shop.
