I don't see anything internally but I'm digging. Seems to check out fine now though from here.

@stephenw10 yeh, it is back. but interestingly. an older manual backup is there, but not the newer test ones i made.
Log is almost full from a non-titled back followed by freshclam

          Sat, 24 Aug 2019 09:48:36 +0200 admin@192.168.x.x (Local Database): Updated cron job for /usr/local/bin/freshclam --config-file=/usr/local/etc/freshclam.conf

Is there anything we can do to suppress backing up those changes (i guess it is triggered by clamv virus definition updates or so) ?

Hmm, well in 2.5 you should be able to append NoReMoTeBaCkUp to that somewhere to prevent it. See: https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/9693

In current you might be able to add one of the four key words to the cron job perhaps. I have not tested...yet.

Hmm, interesting. One thing I'm seeing here is that this change is made and then reversed at every freshclam run creating 3 times the number of entries:

              - <squidremote>
              - </squidremote>
              + <squidremote></squidremote>

Ok looking good now. We are still investigating the root cause there.

Steve, it would be really worthwhile in my opinion for an install-able sysyem patch to be produced for 2.4.4.

The auto backup is effectively useless.
Any manual backup is pushed out and the 100 spots are taken up by freshclaim over the space of 1-2 days.
I might add, that my squid antivirus config is set to 12hrs, which begs the question why is freshclam constantly triggering a backup

I would also suggest, that manual backups should not be pushed out by auto backups. If someone makes a manual backup, it is usually for a specific reason. i.e. in my case, it is because i have a working state and want to install/change a feature. I don't want the config to disappear from all the changes that occur as a result of me experimenting.

                        cheers

@gwaitsi While I agree with everything you said, you really should be maintaining your own manual backups and not trust the cloud to never rain on you. Having a cloud save is nice, but nothing is better than having a local backup.
