The question is, does the session data get sent back to the originating server and then forwarded to these tracking companies, or does it go direct?

I would be curious how did the number of replay script using websites evolve since this study from 2017. There are certainly much more websites out there, and as far as I'm concerned no regulation exists on this besides the EU's GDPR...
