In the gui I enter the password, after I click save the number of asterisks is lower, so it doesnt appear to be updating the password.

How do I fix this directly in the config via the cli?

      Thanks

Disable autofilling Forms in your browser, or try private mode / use a different browser.

          Thanks, I did suspect that.

But it turns out the correct password is stored, the file is in /var/etc/mpd_wan.conf

The number of asterisks shown is no indicator for the real number of password characters.
