Re: OpenVPN Gateway Offline but PIA working

Been trying to figure out this strange issue with OpenVPN gateway in pfsense 2.4.4 GUI showing offline but everything (Private Internet Access) is working, I can connect to websites with no problem. I've done the Data Payload adjustment from 0 to 1 with no change.

Novice in need of help again.

That means that the VPN gateway doesn't respond to pings. In the gateway settings (System > Routing > Gateway) you may set any other IP which is responding for monitoring. Just use a public IP, e.g. 8.8.8.8.

@viragomann I thought that in order to stay safe with using PIA VPN, you have to use their dns servers (209.222.18.222; 209.222.18.218) they provide?

Who writes about DNS? Surely not viragomann...;)

                No trolling, just hinting...

8.8.8.8 was an example for a monitoring IP you may state in the VPN gateway settings. The IP you enter there is used by dpinger (by pinging) to determine if the gw is reachable.
There are no DNS requests send to it and my use any other IP you like here.

@viragomann Thanks for your information. I went back into pfsense settings and added 1.1.1.1 has the monitoring and that corrected my issue, thanks once again, Iโ€™m still learning daily this pfsense and networking stuff. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ
