      Hi all,

been looking at getting a pre built system for testing pfsense in and doing some VM labs for school in.
although I can do the VM on my main system i don't think it would be harmful to do it on another system(if it can even run vms proficiently)

so my question is should i look at purchasing a poweredge 2650 for $50(AUD)?

      http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/ballajura/desktops/dell-poweredge-2650-5x-36gb-scsi-4x-1gb-ram/1078736026

      I could purchase a HP T5740

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-T5740-Thin-Client-N280-1-66Ghz-2GB-RAM-4GB-FLSH-XP-HSTNC-006-TC-w-AC-3643-/171873334483?hash=item280472f4d3

and add dual nics inside and use that instead but the shipping is more than the stated item above.

would the power consumption of a poweredge eventually cost more than just paying for shipping and be done with it?

if you can recommend any other pre built systems for running pfsense in that would be awesome but as i stated above, I live in Australia  where we don't have cheap prices on anything really(roo Tax  >:()

      Any help would be appreciated.

      Alex

        Hi Alex,

try getting your hands on Alix APU system from yawarra.com, they make also custom cases and have other spare parts
in stock, so you only pay local a shipment fee and now tax on top! Alix APU pfSense bundle would be the hit for you!

        Alix APU 1D4
Either what you are byuing, don´t forget a null modem cable to buy on top
that you are able to be willing to connect over serial console if something is
        going wrong at one time.

Thanks for the quick response. I did have a look at those items from yawarra but the price tag is x4 that of the server, i only want a testing and playing environment for pfsense to start of with, then later down the track i will invest in something like that?

          Alex.

The Alix APU is here in Germany around ~220 € as you will see it at the Yawarra store, and will be shipped
international, also to Australia, but then the tax and shipment cost comes on top, so that you will have a price
range near by the given one as Yawarra is shown in their shop. This would be even then the best to have a
closer look on parts from Australia directly, perhaps something used or refurbished?
