windows updates traffic consumption
-
Hello Team
I m using Pfsense 2.4.4-RELEASE-p1 and i have a problem with windows updates and internet consumption
i make rule that give each IP 2 mb and while windows updates downloading the needed updates i found the IP who download exceed the assigned rule of 2 mb
1- why the rules is not enforced OR the windows updates excluding the rules and getting unlimited bandwidth
2- i tried to install squid but i have certificates issues with my network
any other workaround
Thank you

Use 2 floating rules for LAN. In and out.
Follow this guide.

While you're at it, upgrade to p3.

does it make any change in this part !
where i can found the difference between the versions and releases

You'll see this when you log in. If there's an update you'll see a message that an upgrade is available.
-

pfSense is a product from Netgate, so ..... https://www.netgate.com/blog/pfsense-2-4-4-release-p3-now-available.html
New "features" are always welcome.
But this is a firewall, so, first - you'll be looking for things like "security".Golden rule : never use old stuff .... except if concerns your coffee machine and things like that.

Unless your coffee pot is networked - then it too should be updated!
Do you not update your OS or your virus scanner software?
