XG-7100 Security Gateway :: Reinstalling pfSense
-
I followed the instructions to reinstall pfSense on the XG-7100, however, I kept getting the following error message:
Booting from Hard Disk... harddrive_index=0 Boot failed: could not read the boot disk
The solution was to use one of the USB 2.0 ports. Although the instructions say to use "an open USB port", perhaps the BIOS doesn't support USB 3.0? If this is the case, Netgate should update the instructions.

Hmm, we are not aware of that limitation if there is one.
What USB drives specifically were you using?Steve

I am using a Transcend USB 3.0 SDHC / SDXC / microSDHC / SDXC Card Reader - TS-RDF5K with a SanDisk Ultra 32 GB MicroSD HC I card. It was inserted in the only USB 3.0 slot on the XG-7100 (blue color, USB3 label).

Hmm, I doubt booting from a USB card reader has ever been tested. While I might expect that to work it doesn't entirely surprise me to find it doesn't. Coreboot is not as flexible as some BIOSes.
As far as I know booting from a USB memory stick in the USB3 slot works fine.Steve
