Does cloning pfsense from Intel to ARM system work?
-
I have an Intel-based system that's running great, but as an emergency backup, I'm thinking to buy an SG-1100 to keep on a shelf just in case my main system dies.
Is there any problem in backing up my settings from my Intel-based system and restoring them into an ARM-based system? Does the CPU difference make any difference?
Thanks.

The CPU difference might or might not make a difference depending on what the load is on the intel system and what you are doing with it.
But it will work. Reassigning the interfaces should be pretty easy if you are using three or less and no tagged VLANs. With more than three interfaces or with tagged VLANs you'll need to do some configuration of the internal switch in the 1100 but it will work.

My main system is an SG-4860. I received my SG-1100. Indeed the different interface names/quantities caused some issues. What's the best way to move settings over? I've seen some people suggest editing the exported xml setting before importing. Or is there a better way? Thanks.

Editing the config is what I would do there. But I have edited a large number of configs as you might imagine.
You need to include the <switches> and <vlans> sections from the 1100 config in the imported 4860 config as well as renaming the interfaces.
