      https://www.nlnetlabs.nl/projects/unbound/download/#unbound-1-9-4

or should this only be done with actual version updates with Pfsense?

... or for that matter Unbound 1.9.2 from last june, 2019.

The pfSense GUI is constructed around the existing (1.9.1) settings.
Maybe it can be done ....

Take note that pfSense 4.4-RELEASE-p3 uses FreeBSD 11.2.

        edit :

Merge PR #6: Python module: support multiple instances
Merge PR #5: Python module: define constant MODULE_RESTART_NEXT
Merge PR #4: Python module: assign something useful to the per-query data store 'qdata'

some one will be happy now ^^

@bcruze said in can you update unbound on the current version of Pfsense:

i don't understand your last sentence.

The guy that made pfBlockerNG ( @BBcan177 ).
The latest unbound version(s) support multiple python instances and dynamic reloading of DNSBL files which means the resolver ( unbound ) doesn't need to be restarted when these files are changed.
Better yet : the same thing might be true when new DHCP leases come in : no more unbound restarts.
Note : restarting of unbound means DNS is temporary non responding ....

That will be the upcoming release of 2.5.0 I guess.
That version is based on FreeBSD 12, and will probably include most of the new stuff.
