      I have a XG-7100 DT.

Fans: My unit only came with one fan, can I add a second one? If so, what the best quietest fan I can get?
RAM: What's the recommended maximum upgrade? Any incompatible brands I should watch out for?
Hard Drive: What's the biggest one I can add that fits in the box? Any recommendations?

Any other interesting upgrades you would recommend?

Whilst any 4 pin fan should work there we can't really recommend anything other than the fan we use. I would contact our sales guys about that. The desktop model is only supposed to have one fan though.

24GB is the maximum RAM. So the on-board 8GB plus 16GB in an SODIMM.

An actual harddrive? We fit m.2 SSDs in that device. I'm not aware of a maximum size limit .

What do you want to use it for? pfSense does not need much space.

My thought was to add Suricata or Snort for IDS/IPS, an antivirus proxy, and Nmap for an occasional scan.

Even with Squid and Snort/Suricata you don't require huge space. The 256GB drive we fit is more than adequate.
