Cannot bootup after completed installation
-
Hi All
I use IBM server 3650 (M3)to install a new pfsense 2.4.4 version. I use CD to boot it and install it without any error message. After installation completed, the system cannot find a boot disk. I try to install another OS without any issue. I suppose my bios and raid configuration are right. Can anyone give me some suggestions?
Thanks

Try re-installing, selecting ZFS and choosing GPT (UEFI+BIOS).

What @stephenw10 said. Also make sure you downloaded the correct ISO. Sometimes people grab the wrong one and get similar issues.

this is what i did during my intial testing setup, but even with that, check your boot order prevented my first reboot. this can happen with any OS depending on the motherboard as well and how new the BIOS - mine is an older board and bios and I believe it's final bios has (what appears to be) an Ubuntu boot - i assume for the update bios over internet option within it.
changing my boot order to force pfsense drive to be checked first fixed my issue (still trying to disable the intel gbic card checks, but at the same time.. 1s for the setting to recheck each port - after a pfsense update the '90 seconds to reboot' is darn accurate i have to say. legit 90s for my system each time even with the 1s checks on 4 ports and the bios, so technically it'd take less than 90s to reboot [my] the system)

Hi all
I solved the issue by the following steps.
First, I installed pfsense 2.3.x version. The server can boot up normally. Second, allow the server to connect to the internet. Finally, upgrade the pfsense to the latest version.

Ah, interesting. So the 2.4.4 installer ran fine but somehow what it installed is different.

@stephenw10 quite the assumption. There could be a million things between then and there. Or whats your train of thought?

It's an assumption based on having seen similar things when investigating the UEFI/legacy install issue previously.
The 2.4 installer is pretty much the FreeBSD installer but 2.3 used our old installer which was quite different.
I suspect in 2.4 it was booting the USB UEFI and installing UEFI and then not booting that from the disk. 2.3 did not support uefi so it would have installed legacy. the upgrade would not have changed that.
That machine does not seem that old. I imagine it probably could have booted either from HD given the right bios setting.
