Howto start smartd service ?
-
Hi forum
Please, what is The-Right-Way (tm) to get pfSense to start the smartd service, and also get it started automagically at power on ?
On my linux boxen, I usually include the following regular scans in /etc/smartd.conf# -s L = Long selftest on first day, every 3 months, at 1 am
# -s S = Short selftest on first day, every other month, at 1 am
# -m = Send email if any failure/s
/dev/sda -H -s (L/(03|06|09|12)/01/./01|S/(01|02|04|05|07|08|10|11)/01/./01) -m admin@my.domainTIA's for any tips or clues.

Scheduled testing not integrated in pfSense currently.
You can add it manually using the steps in this thread: https://forum.netgate.com/topic/63239/enabling-smartd-in-regular-pfsense
Effectively; start smartd using whatever method you prefer:
https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/development/executing-commands-at-boot-time.htmlInstall the arpwatch package so you can send mail using the notification settings.

Thanks so much for your reply.
I had seen that old thread, but suspected it may be a fossil.
When time permits, I'll work thru the changes suggested, and reply if anything useful is encountered. -
The more recent replies on there seem relevant still.
I would probably use a shellcmd to start smartd. That way it is included in the config.
